How it works

A reel goes in. A shopping list comes out.

Five steps, and the interesting parts are the places where Grumble admits it isn't sure.

1 · You send the reel

You share a cooking video to Grumble's Instagram DMs, the same way you'd send it to a friend. There's no app to install and no account to create. The DM is the whole interface, which is the point: the moment you want to cook something is the moment you're already in Instagram.

2 · Grumble watches the video

A model reads the video and rebuilds the recipe from it: ingredients, quantities, and the method. Two things happen here that are worth naming:

3 · Every ingredient is matched to a real product

"200 g thin wheat noodles" is not a thing you can buy. A 375 g pack is. Matching turns each ingredient into a specific product, and then does the arithmetic nobody enjoys: how many packs that quantity actually needs.

This is why the serves control on the sample basket is worth playing with. Doubling the recipe doesn't double the shopping. One pack of noodles covers two people; four people need two packs; the chilli flakes tip over into a second jar while the garlic doesn't move at all.

4 · Anything uncertain is flagged, not smoothed over

A match can be wrong in ways that matter. "Chilli flakes" could be Sichuan or Korean, and they are not the same heat. When confidence is low, the item gets a Check this chip with a reason in plain English, and it goes to a human review queue rather than being silently accepted.

Pantry staples (oil, vinegar, the things most kitchens already have) are set aside so the list stays short. They are never deleted, and you can add any of them back with one tap. Common allergens are never put in that group, however ordinary the ingredient is.

5 · You order it, not Grumble

You get a link to the basket. Scale it, drop what's already in your cupboard, then hand off into your supermarket's own app to confirm and pay.

Grumble does not place orders. The hand-off takes you to the checkout; you're the one who completes it. Any copy on this site that sounds otherwise is a bug. Tell us.

What isn't built yet

Grumble is in development and the DM channel is not open. What exists today is the pipeline (extraction, matching, pack sizing, confidence flags) and a demo that runs real reels through it ahead of time. What doesn't exist is a live service you can send a video to tonight. When that changes, this page changes.

See it on a real example.

The sample basket is the same shape as the real thing, flags and all.
